Presented by The Movement Lab, Pageant Space, WAXworks, and The Tank
“We Don’t Own the Rights to Any of This” is a duet mashup of stolen moves and sound bites. Performers + creators + BFFLs Miranda Brown and Noa Rui-Piin Weiss use sampling, repetition, and embodied reference to exploit the nostalgia and genius of meme culture.
We wilfully copy content from all corners of the internet to highlight the similarities between dance and memes: two forms where replication and personalization destroy the possibility of ownership. Exploring our personal brand of low stakes dance comedy, our source material ranges from obscure Spiderman memes to the 2010s pop canon.

* This list credits the movements in this piece that we've learned directly from people's bodies via video recording or in-person interactions. The rest of the unoriginal movement (e.g. walking, pointing, slow-dancing) is not as easy to credit. But, you can rest assured that we've never had an original thought in our entire lives.
